MY REVIEW: I greatly enjoy author Carol Ericson's thrilling romantic suspense reads with their intriguing and imaginative storylines and their captivating characters. "Alpha Bravo Seal" is Book 2 in the "Red, White and Built" series, and it is now one of my favorite books by Carol Ericson. I always become involved in following the action-adventure of the stories, but "Alpha Bravo Seal" has an extra-special love story at its core. Navy SEAL Sniper Slade Gallagher once saved the life of documentary film-maker Nicole Hastings when he freed her from captivity at the hands of extreme terrorists. The two of them didn't actually meet at that time, but now Slade is once again assigned to protect Nicole--this time on her home ground. Not exactly comfortable as a big-city bodyguard, Slade must think on his feet to keep Nicole safe. Smart, capable, and gorgeous, Nicole is more than a match for her handsome hero. The attraction is immediate, but the warm friendship which blooms between them grows into a real affair of the heart, with plenty of heat to keep sparks flying. Their relationship is natural and so well-written, and I couldn't wait to see how they could make the differences in their lives and lifestyles work out for a united, happy future. A great romantic suspense read from a great storyteller.

Josh was part of the elite sniper team who took down Gina’s own father and also her husband and others as they negotiated with terrorists. Gina was left a widow with a young son, but her knowledge and involvement with the terrorist group must be ascertained and clarified—is she a victim or an insider? More than a year after the elimination of the men in her life, Gina is trying to make a new life in the real estate business for herself and her son in Miami, but she finds herself the recipient of mysterious text messages asking for the whereabouts of drugs and weapons. MY REVIEW:  Thomas Jefferson was immeasurably complex--as fascinated with the world as the world would become, and remain, fascinated with the man himself. Jefferson's legacy is indelible, not without scandal, and it continues to evolve. He was a man of words and a man of letters--many thousands of letters and many more thousands of words. After the death of her mother, his eldest daughter, Martha, called "Patsy", would become her father's helpmate and traveling companion, assisting him when he became America's minister to France. "America's First Daughter", by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie, is a first-person telling of Patsy's personal life and her life as the daughter of the brilliant historical icon Thomas Jefferson. Always devoted to her father and his public and political standing, Patsy would sacrifice much of her own personal happiness to protect and preserve the Jefferson name. MY REVIEW:  Lovers of American history, particularly the wild and woolly Frontier Era, will greatly enjoy "Jefferson's America". Author Julie M. Fenster writes with gusto and a real love of subject as she tells a true-life adventure tale that is more enthralling than fiction or film. Thomas Jefferson played a master's game of chess to block Britain, France, and Spain from gaining permanent control of the vast land to the West of the Continental States. His key chess pieces were an eclectic group of explorers whose eccentricities were as notable as were their brave proclivities. Along with Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, Jefferson also engaged William Dunbar, George Hunter, Thomas Freeman, Peter Custis, and Zebulon Pike to scout, map, and document the scope and range of the land to the West. The author imbues this factual account with descriptive details which bring to life the personalities and politics of the day, and a section of black and white art and photos gives a glimpse of this portion of the past. Most intriguing is the last photo--a view from Jefferson's home, Monticello, looking toward the West.

MY REVIEW:  To Beguile a Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt is not a typical historical romance. The hero, Sir Alistair Munroe, is physically flawed, but principled and intelligent. The heroine, Helen Fitzwilliam, while classically beautiful, has taken some wrong turns in life. In order to find safe harbor for herself and her two children, she must flee the powerful man, the Duke of Lister, to whom she has been a mistress for more than ten years. While the Duke feels no real love for Helen, or the two children she has borne him, he refuses to let Helen leave him of her own free will. Forced to assume the identify of a housekeeper, Helen surprises Alistair at his run down castle with a recommendation from a mutual acquaintance. Alistair has been living in increasing despair and disorder. At first, he insists that Helen and the children cannot stay, but he soon comes to enjoy the life and light they bring to his home. Helen is no housekeeper or cook, but she applies herself to setting things to right. The children overcome their initial apprehension at the disfigurement Alistair has suffered, and they spend more and more time with him, learning from his scientific mind. It is not science which draws Alistair and Helen together, but sizzling chemistry!
