MY REVIEW: With "The Big Book of Reading Comprehension Activities, Grade 1: 120 Activities for After-School and Summer Reading Fun" author Hannah Braun helps kids enjoy learning to really understand what they’re reading--not just repeat what they see--and it's fun for kids and parents too! Designed as a progressive teaching aid which will make the most of non-school time, this book is charmingly illustrated, and each page has a different and interesting activity. The book starts out with the simplest lessons and becomes more challenging as the children work through the pages. The activities are designed to be completed with adult help, and you can also target specific skills by referencing the index. At the bottom of each page, there is a dialogue box identifying the skills used to complete the activity on that page. I was personally delighted to see an activity page called "The Little Hen" (like the fable "The Little Red Hen", one of my childhood favorites).
