A Life Once Dreamed

Six years ago, a shocking secret sent Agnes Pratt running in search of a new start. She found it in Penance, a rugged town of miners and lumberjacks in the Dakota Territory, where she became Miss Aggie, respected schoolteacher and confirmed old maid. But the past has a way of catching up with people.

When childhood friend and former sweetheart James Harris accepts a position as the town doctor, Aggie's pleasantly predictable days suddenly become anything but. James wants to know why Agnes left behind the life they had dreamed of creating for themselves--but he is the one person who can never know.

In the shadows of the Black Hills, can a healing light be shed on the past? Or will the secret Agnes can't seem to outrun destroy her chance at happiness?

"Rachel Fordham has crafted a tender tale of compassion and grace that authentically depicts a mother's heart and touches on questions of family and identity and the nature of real love."--Carolyn Miller, award-winning author of the Regency Brides series

MY REVIEW:  Rachel Fordham is an inspirational historical romance author who excels in captivating characterizations and compelling story lines. In "A Life Once Dreamed", a young woman learns a life-changing secret and leaves behind her home, her family, and her love in Buffalo, New York to travel westward to a new life. The Dakota Territory of the late 1800's is a far cry from the life Agnes Pratt is turning away from, but she has accepted a teaching post, and plans to go forth as "Miss Pratt". After six years, she has become the well-regarded spinster schoolmarm, "Miss Aggie". However, Fate will have its way, and Life is either less than we expected, or more than we hoped. When the new doctor arrives in Penance, the little town where Aggie settled, she is stunned to learn that the physician is James Harris, her next-door neighbor, friend, and sweetheart from Buffalo. James has never accepted the fact that Aggie left with no explanation, and now he wants answers to his questions. However, he must learn to adapt to life in a frontier town if wants a chance for a life with Aggie. As James and Aggie work together to resolve pressing issues in the town, they each grow as individuals as they grow closer together. Will Aggie finally come face-to-face with the secrets that caused her to flee? When Faith shines its cleansing light and all truths are revealed, will hearts heal and hopes be rekindled for a bright and happy future? "A Life Once Dreamed" is highly recommended for lovers of inspirational historical romance.

Rachel Fordham

Rachel Fordham has long been fascinated by all things historical or in the words of her children “old stuff”. Often the historical trivia she discovers is woven into her children's bedtime tales. Despite her love for good stories she didn’t attempt writing a novel until her husband challenged her to do so (and now she’s so glad he did). Since that time she’s often been found typing or researching while her youngest child naps or frantically writing plot twists while she waits in the school pick-up line. In addition to her passion for storytelling she enjoys reading, being outdoors and seeing new places. Rachel lives with her husband and children on an island in Washington state.
